There are so many dentists doing implants now – how do you choose a good implant dentist?
1. Experience is the key
A good implant dentist should be placing over 50 implants a year for a number of years. To achieve excellence, an implant dentist would have placed over 500 implants.
Our Implantologist, Dr. Johann Styger has been placing over 200 implants a year for the last 10 years, so he is extremely experienced.
2. Referrals from other dentists
A excellent implant dentist with a good reputation will often accept referrals from other dentists. If a dentist is willing to refer their own patients to someone, they are likely to be very good.
Our implant dentist, Dr. Johann Styger routinely has patients referred to him for work.
3. Complicated procedure
A highly skilled implant dentist will tackle all complicated cases and should be able to do them effortlessly. Many dentists who only dabble with implants will not be comfortable placing implants in the complex cases and will often say comments like “There is not enough bone for implants”.
Our Implantologist tackles all difficult cases and routinely does procedures such as bone augmentation, soft tissue grafting, and sinus lifts.
4. PRGF
A highly skilled dental surgeon will understand the many benefits of using PRGF during implant treatment and therefore will have invested in the revolutionary technique. PRGF increases healing, reduces pain and swelling, and increases success of implants.
We provide PRGF free to all our patients having dental implant treatment, as we understand how good it is for you.
5. Fixed teeth in a day
An experienced dental implant surgeon should be comfortable providing fixed teeth in a day, as long as your bone quality is good enough. Teeth in a day is a great concept because you walk out of the dental practice with a great smile on your face and are able to eat straight away!
Our dental implant surgeon routinely places fixed teeth in a day.
6. Qualifications
Many dentists are qualified to do dental implants, even though they haven’t had any formal training to do so. The best dentists will often have qualifications from respected universities and have taken advanced courses to gain the required skill and knowledge.
Our Implantologist has university degrees from France and South Africa, and has also taken many advanced courses in England and Spain.
7. CT Scanner
A dental practice that specializes in dental implants will often have a CT scanner, as it is a vital aspect of their work. These scanners are incredibly expensive and only the best dental practices will have one. When a dentist needs a CT Scan, but doesn’t have the machine, they will refer you to a company who takes them and these are often far away. Sometimes, the dentist will even do the implant without having seen a CT Scan, which is like doing the surgery blind.
At The Denture & Implant Clinic, we believe a CT scan before treatment is essential, and that’s why we have invested in a world-class scanner.
If you are looking for a highly skilled implant dentist, give our team at The Denture and Implant Clinic a call and we will be happy to assist.
