Dental knowledge and technology have come a long way in the past few decades. At The Denture & Implant Clinic, we have leveraged these advancements to allow us to provide superior services to our patients. Dental implants have been one of these advancements, allowing us to provide patients with a functional, long-lasting replacement for missing teeth. While dental implants have become the gold standard of tooth replacement, the healing time can be lengthy. Enter: PRGF (Plasma Rich in Growth Factor) treatment. This innovative technology can reduce the recovery period along with much of the swelling and discomfort that can follow implant procedures.
What is PRGF?
When we experience any sort of injury, our body signals cellular proteins to repair the injury. In PRGF treatment, we leverage the patients’ own platelets to accelerate tissue healing and stimulate regeneration. Growth factors are found naturally in plasma and play an essential and therapeutic role in the process of tissue healing and regeneration.
Using a special machine called the PRGF-ENDORET, the growth factors are separated from the patients’ own blood and then applied to the treatment area or injury to aid in healing.
Benefits of PRGF
- Decreases inflammation and pain
- Safe and biocompatible (derived from the patients’ own blood)
- Cost- effective (PRGF can be generated in office)
- Easy to use (PRGF is easy to handle)
How PRGF works
Prior to PRGF treatment, the patient will undergo a small blood draw in our office. The blood is placed into a centrifuge where the growth factors are separated from the rest of the blood. The entire process can be completed in under an hour. Once the growth factors have been separated, they can be used on the surgical site to help with healing.
Uses for PRGF treatment
- Bone and tissue regeneration after an implant procedure
- Post-extraction
- Treatment of periodontal conditions
PRGF is changing the game
In the past, many patients without sufficient bone structure in the mouth were told that they were not suitable candidates for dental implants. This is because dental implants must be able to fuse with the jawbone during a process known as osseointegration. This fusion process allows the implant to successfully support the force placed on it to function properly, just like a natural tooth root. With PRGF treatments, it opens the door to many patients who didn’t think they were eligible for implants by promoting regeneration of bone around the implant and the extraction site and enhancing the osseointegration process.
At The Denture & Implant Center, we believe in offering comprehensive restoration solutions to give patients a beautiful, functional smile. PRGF treatment allows us to offer a proven and safe method for faster, pain-free healing, and is just one of the ways we leverage dental technology to give our patients best in class service.
