Here at The Denture and Implant Clinic we are pleased to unveil our new CT Scanner:
A CT Scanner allows for colour X Rays of a patient’s head, jaw, teeth and even muscles with an extremely high level of detail.
CT (Computerised Tomography) allows a dentist to plan in great detail a treatment such as dental implant procedures. This method allows factors such as suitability for the procedure, the bone quality and the best place to carry out the implant to be taken into account beforehand.
This means you can be confident our treatments will be carried out with the highest precision and accuracy.
We have launched our very own Denture & Implant Clinic Facebook page.
The page will be used to allow clients, both existing and potential, to keep in touch with all the latest goings on at the clinic and keep up to date with special offers and competitions just for fans of the page.
Following on from consequence #8, “Not correcting damaging techniques“, in our series of 9 Consequences Of Not Seeing A Hygienist, here is the final post:
Missing out on dental product guidance specific to your mouth
There are different kinds of toothpastes for different situations in the mouth. Which mouth rinse is best for you? What about floss? Which inter-dental brushes? Which dental products should you most concentrate on and which dental products are either not so important or appropriate for you?
Below is the full list:
#8 – Not correcting damaging techniques
#7 - Keeps the inside of your mouth hidden
#6 - Is potentially life-threatening
#5 - Increases risk of Systemic disease
#1 - Costs Patients more money
Gum disease afflicts some 80 to 90% of our adult population. The vast majority experience NO symptoms, and thus suffer the consequences of a silent insidious demise of not only their gums, but underlying bone, and often-times their overall systemic health.
The problem with gum disease is that it is a silent killer. It is often not visible and is often painless. The first sign of gum disease can be a loose tooth by which time it is too late, so the key to prevention is catching it in early stages and stopping it progressing.
As gum disease progresses there is irreversible jaw bone loss and because it is so hard for dentists to restore over reduced bone levels we really want to do all we can to stop this.
Finally, we have never seen gum disease heal itself. Gum disease progressively gets worse and like so many things the sooner you start working on stopping it, the better.

Not correcting damaging techniques
Surprisingly often people use bad toothbrushing techniques that actually damage the gums around the teeth and cause recession of the gums. The same thing can happen with dental flossing techniques, it’s important on a regular basis to check that the technique you are using is not causing any damage.
Say hello to Debbie Clack, her role on the The Denture & Implant Clinic’s team is Clinical Nurse.
About Debbie
I gained my National certificate for Dental Nursing in 1993 whilst under the guidance of the dental team at St Georges Hospital Dental Unit. I left St Georges Hospital to work for the NHS Trust working with adults & children with learning difficulties, special needs patients, phobic patients & the elderly. I am a member of the British Dental Nurses Association, as well as registered with General Dental Council.
I joined Dr Stewart’s Team on a part time basis just over two years ago where I have had the opportunity to train as a clinical nurse which involves being more hands on. My role requires me taking impressions for the patients and really being involved with the patients journey. Like all the team here at The Denture & Implant Clinic I help out where needed.
I have two beautiful children who take up the rest of my time doing all the things mums do!
Following on from consequence #6, “Is potentially life-threatening“, in our series of 9 Consequences Of Not Seeing A Hygienist, here is #7:
Keeps the inside of your mouth hidden
Seeing is believing. It is not possible for us to see into our mouth in detail but the hygienist can help us to do this by using an intra-oral camera and showing us close-ups of the gums and by using a microscope that shows how active the bacteria are in any plaque taken from our mouth. We all need to be motivated to look after our health e.g. to exercise – these tools that the hygienists have are a great way to motivate us to look after our teeth.
Following on from consequence #5, “Increases risk of Systemic disease“, in our series of 9 Consequences Of Not Seeing A Hygienist, here is #6:
Is potentially life-threatening
Sadly oral cancer is on the increase and it is one of those cancers that progresses rapidly. The key to avoiding oral cancer is avoiding risk factors and early diagnosis. The hygienist will always do an oral cancer screening at every visit and you may well be seeing a Hygienist more regularly than a dentist.
Following on from consequence #4, “Loss of teeth”, in our series of 9 Consequences Of Not Seeing A Hygienist, here is #5:
Increases risk of Systemic disease
There is now a huge body of evidence showing links between gum disease and heart disease, gum disease and diabetes and other systemic diseases. So not only is going to the hygienist good for your teeth but it really is good for your overall health. For more information please ask our treatment care nurses.
Following on from consequence #3, “Causes you Pain”, in our series of 9 Consequences Of Not Seeing A Hygienist, here is #4:
Loss of teeth
The number one cause of losing your teeth is gum disease not tooth decay. This is either entirely preventable or can at least be slowed down by regular hygiene visits. Replacing missing teeth is expensive whether it’s a denture, bridge or an implant. The hygienist prevents or at least delays this saving patients a lot of money
